Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Nasal surgery (rhinoplasty), one of the most common aesthetic and reconstructive surgical procedures, can dramatically improve the appearance of the nose. A weakly defined or overly prominent nose may upset the symmetry of the face.

Rhinoplasty may enhance the contour of the nose to increase the balance of facial features. Today, more than ever, male patients are amenable to the idea of rhinoplasty to eliminate a bump or to reshape and recontour the nose. This procedure can also correct hereditary defects, alleviate breathing problems, reduce airway obstruction and reconstruct broken noses.

Rhinoplasty may involve:

  • Removing a large hump to change the bridge of the nose
  • Altering the length or width of the nose
  • Correcting the tip of a nose that may be too wide, too narrow, too sharp or deviated
  • Narrowing the span of the nostrils
  • Changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip

Incisions are made inside the nostrils (hidden incisions, no visible scarring) or at the base of the nose. Once the skin is separated from supporting bone and cartilage, it can be sculpted into the desired form. Dr. Geroulis, striving for a natural look, will formulate a customized surgical plan to contour each nose for a natural fit in keeping with the patient’s bone structure, features, height and weight.

Prior to the surgery, Dr. Geroulis will evaluate the anatomy of the nose and its proportionality to the face. Patients may request computer imaging during the consultation to provide a simulated image of the potential results of the recommended surgery.
