A: The North Shore Center for Facial Plastic & Cosmetic surgery is an outpatient cosmetic surgical clinic, where only cosmetic surgical procedures are performed on a daily basis. Q: What is the most common plastic surgery procedure?
A: During 2005, in the United States, the most frequently performed surgical procedure was Body Liposculpture, followed by Breast Augmentation, Eyelid Surgery or Blepharoplasty, Nose Recontouring or Rhinoplasty and then Tummy Tucks or Abdominoplasty. The most frequently performed non-invasive procedures during the same year were Botox CosmeticTM for removing wrinkles on the forehead, laser hair removal, Restylane, microdermabrasion, and resurfacing skin peels for the face.
Q: What is a board-certified cosmetic surgeon?
A: A board-certified physician has completed an approved educational training program. Board certified physicians also complete an evaluation process that includes written and oral exams to assess the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to provide quality patient care in cosmetic surgery. A board of highly experienced examiners reviews the surgeon's cases for the past several years.
Q: What medications should I avoid before surgery?
A: During your Pre-Operative scheduling surgery session which is about an hour long session you will be given a dossier made up for you that will outline among other items all of the medications and supplements to avoid. There is a list of medications and supplements that you will need to avoid for at least 2 weeks before and after surgery to enhance your recovery and speed up the healing process. During your medical health history analysis with the nurse you will be required to identify all medications that you are currently taking and you will be advised on what to continue and what to discontinue. In certain cases, should you be requested to discontinue any medication, Dr Anthony Geroulis will contact your family physician for medical clearance.
Q: What do I have to do to ensure a good postoperative result?
A: A critical factor in patients' overall results and satisfaction is the emphasis placed on following diligently the detailed post operative handbook given to all patients at the time of scheduling their procedure. In addition it is vital to follow all your surgeon's verbal instructions during your follow up visits. As a general guideline you are to refrain from smoking, alcohol, vigorous activity for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery and you are to take all the necessary vitamins and supplements that are included in your surgery program and outlined by your patient care coordinator.
