Your staff is amazing, professional, wonderful, caring. Lisa Merel RN - she is fabulous! Nurse Anesthetist Cindy, Mirofora, Monica all great and extremely lucky to work with you!

Thank you again and I really appreciate everything!

Dear Dr. Geroulis,

You are truly a gem. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate the manner in which you have taken care of my precious mother during her face lift procedure.

To begin with you bedside manner is just superb. You always made my mom feel special and each time she comes to see you  - you lift her spirits. (As if they need lifting).

My mom started telling us many years ago (before she has any wrinkles or falling skin) that she would one day have a face lift. I know that starting about 10 years ago she really wanted to do it, but it was not until through thorough research did she fin you. Once she found you and your superior qualifications did she go ahead with her plan. Reading the information about you and your clinic made me feel comfortable also.

However, reading the material about you does not come close to really describing you. You are more than a great surgeon. You are a great person. You even came to check on my mom at our hotel during a snowstorm. You go above and beyond in your cutting edge education but you also go way above and beyond in your personal manner.

You not only lift faces, you lift spirits. Thank you for all the efforts that you put in yo making yourself such a professional and great artist. Thank you so much for being so personable. It is not easy to have both great skill and great personality. I have often seen one sacrificed for the other...but you have them both.

Sincerely,

C.L

Esteemed Dr. Geroulis,

Just like in previous years, I called to wish you a very happy and healthy New year to you and to your family.

I could not even come up with the words to tell you how kind and supportive a surgeon you are.

I come to that well - appointed clinic. I saw the uplifting uniform color ( Pink you and your stuff wear during surgery...and...I felt less "apprehensive".

The set of steps to follow during the pre and post - operatively are another outstanding part of the entire process.

Even since...whenever, I would happen to see someone who might benefit from your touch...I felt the urge to tell him or her...my story

Thank you again,

MTB

January 9, 2003

Dear Dr. Naclerio,

I was reflecting on 2002 and the events that I was truly thankful for during the year. Being able to breath normally was clearly the most significant event behind the birth of my son in July. And then I realized that I never sent you a note regarding my septorhynoplasty in April 22, 2002. As a business owner myself, too many times all I ever hear about are the negative things so I wanted to change that. That staff and processes that you have created at the University of Chicago worked flawlessly and I would like to take a moment to compliment you on all of this.

I first came to your office on a recommendation from a friend in August 2001. As I recall, once you finished with the video exam and were unable to pass the camera even partway up my nose, you commented that I had the "most twisted septum that you had ever seen." You called in several residence/ med students and showed them "something the will not often see."  I found all of this quite amusing as I never realized how constricted my breathing was and that I had lived with this since a car accident in 1985.

The explanation of the procedure that you provided was very thorough and when I commented that I would also be interested in the rhynoplasty procedure you recommended Dr. Geroulis. I was very pleased that Dr. Geroulis also provided a detailed explanation of the procedure as well as a comment about my septum being "quite a mess" which made me realize that the surgery was the way to go.

The next stop was a long involved process with my insurance company to get them to pay for this procedure. Sherry Stoker from you office was absolutely fantastic and together with Dr.Geroulis we did the impossible: obtained insurance approval for a rhynoplasty! Basically this process took seven months but once approval was obtained the scheduling of the surgery was very quick and efficient. I even traveled up to the North Shore office of Dr.Geroulis to discuss the surgery and this gave me great comfort as to what to expect from the procedure.

Pre-surgical procedure was conducted both over the phone and at the hospital and nothing was missed. So on the morning of April 22nd I was extremely prepared for everything except the 500lb. Butterfly in my stomach. The next 8 hours were obviously a blur but from what my wife tell me the surgery went longer than expected but was fine. However, I did need to be checked in overnight into the hospital and the staff worked quickly to accommodate me, which was greatly appreciated by my wife.

The next morning the surgeon who worked alongside Dr. Geroulis (his name escaped me but he was terrific) paid me a visit and talked a t length about the procedure and several post-surgery items to follow. Again, he was very thorough and had a great bedside manner. The check-out process went smoothly and very efficient.

Finally, I had several post-op visits that all went well and I always waited less than five minutes in your waiting area. Sadly, this is not the standard with other medical facilities I visit. There is one last appointment in April and Dr. Geroulis has promised to show me the "before and after" pictures which I look forward to seeing. If you are in, I'd like to personally thank you.

I run a company of 300 employees and each day I encourage my staff to perform at a standard that your staff is already at. And I say that having interacted with your staff at various times and places. So, I feel I know what I'm talking about when I say that you have a practice and staff that you should take extreme pride in.

I was always accommodated and made to feel important, including the time when Dr. Geroulis had to cancel an appointment unexpectedly and then offered his North Shore facility to keep the surgery on track. Most importantly, everyone took time to make sure I understood what was happening at each and every step which made me very comfortable when faced with a significant surgery.

Sincerely,

M.B

Window on the World

Stumbling out if the dim, impersonal interior of a Chicago suburban hotel the bright, pristine light of a quintessential early Mid-western Fall morning felt wonderful. Crisp, cool air; glorious trees red and gold against clear blue skies and that particular smell of autumn, redolent of damp earth, drying leaves and the peppery perfume of chrysanthemums all mingled together and here and there, a pungent whiff of Starbucks Coffee drifted across the parking lot.

Groggy and a little unsteady, I was none-the – less, immediately conscious of a suddenly, breathtakingly new world. The sky sparkled in an enormous arch above my head giving me a feeling of being in a dazzlingly beautiful world. Perhaps it was so in my younger years but, as my field of vision gradually contracted, I must have forgotten just how wide the world really is. A five – minute drive found me in the Clinic where the day before I had undergone two hours of eye surgery. Excessively heavy lids had become increasingly uncomfortable, particularly in hot, humid weather and this past suffocating summer in Rome, I actually found myself holding up my eyelids to look at Michelangelo’s masterpiece ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. Time for something to be done!

Instant blackout of sedation to recovery room and a giant Lazy Boy chair in a nearby hotel went smoothly and then, as expected, I needed two weeks to recuperate. I had anticipated bruising, discomfort, cold compresses, a big black pressure sweatband plus some days of inertia and nights sleeping in a recliner, but certainly not instant gratification. Now just twenty-four hours after the operation, I had actual tangible results even before I started to heal! The world seemed truly marvelous and I reveled in the unending sky above me and later, at home, in seeing the ceiling without have to look up at it – this of course whilst less splendid, was bona fide confirmation of the new parameters of my vision.

Four days later I emerged from seclusion to visit the Clinic and again I was ultra – conscious of my new, exquisitely personal, extraordinarily wide window on the world. My freshly adopted fashion statement of black “Lone Star Studio” baseball cap and enormous Jackie Kennedy era dark glasses protected me from my neighbors and allowed me to attend the first session of my short story writing class. My fellow classmates no doubt found me somewhat affected as I sat in the cool late afternoon in the basement of The Newberry Library in dark glasses! But the disguise served me well on subsequent forays for everyday chores – even my best friends could not recognize me if I kept my mouth closed. Our doormen I could not avoid; they were a little disconcerted but of course it was not their place to ask why, for the first time during our four years in the building, I was wearing a hat.

The following week my attendance at a small board meeting aroused mild interest with initial non-recognition. I dodged the inevitable questions, kept my hat well down on my head, my glasses glued to my face and succeeded in exiting unscathed by comment, concern or criticism. The next day, even whilst, my face and my eyes were still swollen and puffy, another revelation- driving on the highway I realized that my vision was not only greatly improved upwards but peripherally also. Long vistas of multi – colored autumn leaves seemed to run along side and gently fold behind me like stage curtains instead of moving out of my gaze at the forty-five degree angle. My perennial blind spot in the car had shrunk and I had a much greater sense of movement in the lanes on either side. “It just gets better and better” I thought, “how am I going to feel when my face returns to normal proportions and not only is my vision improved but I will also have lost that slightly ferocious look that low eyebrows portray?”

Reaction to my surgery was mixed. My husband, a doctor, was naturally skeptical, anxious and worried – having usually heard only of the cases that “went wrong.” Our son, a resident of Hollywood, accepted it as a matter of course, a procedural term tripping easily off his tongue revealing his familiarity with the multiple body enhancing techniques employed so freely in today’s California and indicating that my little op was exactly that nothing to be compared with the total body sculpting of the truly serious pursuers of the body beautiful. By contrast our Seattle daughter expressed concern, support and encouragement for me to “Go ahead and get it done and increase your comfort,” proving yet again that the Upper North West really is “God’s Country” where outward superficialities carry little weight. The Madison based daughter expressed mild surprise at my decision, followed up with supportive get well calls during my recovery but, in general, found cosmetic eye surgery far removed from her everyday realm of life as a Wisconsin based primatologist.

The days passed, the swelling subsided and the dark glasses came off, possibly a little too soon prompting some mildly embarrassing questions. One of our doormen puzzled over my changed looks and eventually asked if I had changed my hairstyle. That did it. I changed my hairstyle and the comments diminished. I couldn’t remember how I looked before and yet somehow the person I saw in the bathroom mirror, though not quite me, became more and more familiar. Just when I thought that I had assessed all my new benefits I was surprised yet again. Driving down Lake Shore Drive at night I wondered why the street lighting reminded me of visits to Eastern Europe in the seventies and eighties. The lights, looking small and lost in a sea of blackness, made me feel a little depressed. Suddenly I understood! Where previously my vision had cut off just above the lights as they stretched down the highway ahead of me, now it encompassed the whole arch of the heavens in all their blackness above.

And so it continues: from row CC at the opera, I can see not only the stage but also the beautifully decorated walls and ceiling surrounding the proscenium. I no longer have to lift my head to read the sur-titles and the whole stage and production seems bigger, brighter and even more marvelous than ever. Orchestra Hall’s beautiful, giant, cream egg-like interior surrounds me above and on all sides in my higher, wider new vision. The lake is larger, the parks enormous, the whole panorama of everyday life is bigger, brighter and more joyful. After years of looking out from under the “helmet” of my heavy eyelids, I now have a world arched high above and folded right around behind me. The momentary dozing over books, newspapers or during long distance highway driving regardless of the time of day or degree of tiredness or lack thereof has also been remedied. I no longer fall asleep upon relaxing into my seat at the opera or symphony because I have light, normal eyelids once again. I have gained a truly new, very personal window on the world; one I had not expected could be so wonderfully joyous. Thank you Drs. Kaplan and Kapustiak but most of all Dr. Geroulis; you truly are an artist with your scalpel and also a very caring doctor with a wonderfully supporting staff. I am most grateful to you all.

Sincerely.

C.

The above story was initially written to explain my odd hat and dark glasses disguise to my writing course classmates. I then thought that perhaps it would be a way to say thank you to you Dr. Geroulis and to your staff.

July 9, 1986

Dear Dr. Geroulis:

I wanted to take this opportunity to sit down and let you know how happy I am with the lipo-suction surgery that was performed on me in May of this year. I had always been  somewhat overweight and after I had my son two years ago, the bulges just would not go away, even with exercise and dieting. I had read about lipo-suction surgery in ads but I was very unsure about actually having the surgery done. But after I called your office and spoke with your nurse I was convinced that this was what I wanted to do.

Well then the actual surgery came and I was scared to death. I had never had surgery performed on myself before. But your staff is absolutely wonderful. For one thing, I couldn’t stop laughing   while they were prepping me for surgery, I couldn’t be nervous with that group. And while I was in the recovery room feeling okay really, I was not in the least amount of pain, but kind of emotional about the whole thing, here you come with flowers for me. I couldn’t help it but O felt like crying, if I remember right I think I did. But that was okay too, because your nurse Sherry and your technician Mary Ann both calmed me down and even had me laughing again.

I just wanted you to know I think you are one of the finest (no, the finest) doctor that I have ever met! The surgery went fine and I feel absolutely fabulous about myself now. Your staff, well really what else can I say? They were fantastic to me, and every time I call I feel like I get the best treatment. They treat me like I am always welcome to come back or call. Most doctors after something like that, don’t have that type of hospitality. You treated me like you actually cared about me as a human being, and finding that in doctors nowadays is very rare from what I’ve heard from friends, etc.

I just hope that your practice continues to thrive, I have told everyone I know about my surgery because they themselves were also unsure and hadn’t heard too much about lipo-suction. I believe I have taken their fears away. Please take care of yourself and thank you and your staff once again for the caring and fantastic way that I feel about myself right now.

Kindest regards,

Mrs. C.F

March 19, 1985

Dear Dr. Geroulis:

On Sunday, march 17, 1985 at &:05 A.M. I watched the Head to Toe plastic surgery program on Channel 7. I have been waiting for this program because there might be some questions I had that might be answered. The questions that were bothering me were answered satisfactorily. I enjoyed this program and was very pleased because:

  • You explained your answers in detail in a layman’s language that was easily understood.
  • You impressed me with your honesty.
  • You instilled me with confidence that I would hve no fear of having surgery by you.
  • Although I have no personal experience as to the surgery you have been doing. I had the feeling after hearing your comments and answers, that here is a person who is honest, talented , qualified and explains his diagnosis and his surgery will be satisfactory or else he will not do it.
  • As for the cost of the surgery, I felt confident that the patient would not be taken advantage of. The bill would be acceptable to the patient and there would be no financial surprises.

I just could not help writing to you with my thoughts.

Sincerely, yours,

G.A.P.

Dear Doctor,

I underwent surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital to correct a severely deviated nasal septum, which for many years had restricted the normal function of my nasal airway. There was also an associated increasing incidence of nasal hemorrhage that on occasion would occur while I was treating a patient.

Dr. Geroulis performed the corrective surgery. I am very pleased with the result and I wish to thank him for his professional skill and pleasant demeanor. I was well informed and prepared for the surgery I was about to experience and the post surgery evaluation indicated an excellent result was obtained.

Again I wish to commend Dr. Geroulis and the staff of the Otolaryngology clinic for the pleasant and professional skills in the service they provided.

Sincerely,

Dear Dr. Geroulis,

In our society, it is very easy to criticize and find something wrong in most situations. The difficult part is to find someone doing something right and telling them. It is for that reason, I am writing you this letter.

As you are aware, I recently went through liposuction surgery at your North Shore Out Patient Center. From my initial visit and consultation with you and your staff, I came away being most impressed with your cordiality, professionalism, and time given to explain and answer questions on the procedure.

It has been six weeks since the surgery, and with all of the follow up visits, I've never had to wait. There have been no post surgical unexpected problems, and I am very exited with the results.

If any of your prospective patients need a satisfied patient to consult with, have them give me a call.

Please pass along my appreciation and thanks to everyone on your staff.

Sincerely,

M.J.S

Dear Mr. Sprang:

In this fast paced world in which average customer service have become the acceptable norm, it is refreshing to find individuals who uphold the tradition of excellence and most importantly, integrity. I am referring to Dr. Anthony Geroulis who just completed nasal reconstructive surgery on my fifteen-year-old daughter.

I have known Dr. Geroulis for over seven years, I also had five nose operations prior to meeting Dr. Geroulis. When I asked Dr. Geroulis if there was anything he could do to remedy the previous effects and problems from my previous operations, he was honest and straight forward with his assessment and the confidence he had in his ability to cosmetically correct my nose. In August of 1987, Dr. Geroulis operated on my nose which consisted of taking cartilage from my ear and rebuilding the interior of my nose as well as reducing the effects of the scar on the outside of my nose from my fifth operation.

The fact that Dr. Geroulis is a gifted and brilliant surgeon is obvious. But it is his integrity and honesty which has prompted this letter. My daughter had badgered me for a nose job for over two years. When I first took her to see Dr. Geroulis, he explained that she was still growing and he would not perform any surgery on her nose until he was convinced the effects of her growth would not alter the results. When that condition was met, he interviewed her at length and explained all the results she should expect from such an operation and more importantly, what she should not expect. He explained that it would not change her life nor should she expect all of her friends to even notice the difference. This kind of honesty is very appreciated and I just wanted to go on record to recognize Dr. Geroulis.

By the way, my daughter’s nose looks fabulous!

Yours truly,

G.J.G

March 23. 2000

Dear Dr. Geroulis:

I have been meaning to sit down and write this letter for a month and am just now getting around to it. You did surgery on me February 21st at the University of Chicago Hospitals and I write to let you know that my experience with you and your colleagues was by far the very best treatment I have ever had at the University of Chicago Hospitals. I have been an employee of the University for ten years and have always used UCHP as my medical provider. I have been through two other surgeries other than this one and I felt like I was in a luxury hotel rather than a hospital the whole time I dealt with you, from check-in, office visits, surgery, and follow-up care. You and your team have changed my opinion of the U of C Hospitals. It used to be that when I heard the radio or TV ads talking about how advanced and good the hospitals were, I would laugh to myself and think “ Boy, are they brainwashing people.”

Thank you, Dr. Geroulis.

Sincerely,

S.J

Dear Doctor:

Relating to my recent surgery – I’m writing to thank you for the courteous and professional service rendered by your staff. On a scale of one to ten your nurses and assistants rate an eleven.

The comfortable atmosphere at the North Shore Out Patient Center relieved my anxiety regarding my surgery and was a welcome change to what I have previously experienced in a hospital setting.

You are a skilled professional – Thank you

October 7, 1991

Dear Dr. Cohen.

A wish to take this opportunity to thank you for having referred me to Dr. Anthony J. Geroulis.

As I explained to you previously, I have been plagued with breathing problems all of my life due to a badly deviated septum. In January of 1990 I underwent surgery to correct this problem. Shortly thereafter my breathing problems returned as my left nostril remained blocked. When I asked the surgeon about this I was told that nothing more could be done for me.

On your recommendation I went to see Dr. Geroulis and was immediately impressed by the manor of his operation. He maintains an office staff of three outstanding ladies, all of whom are very cordial, pleasant, and make a patient feel at ease from the moment he walks in.

Dr.Geroulis doesn’t pull any punches. After examining me he agreed to take my case explaining that there would be no guarantees but that he was sure he could improve my condition.

I was also impressed by the way he defended the other surgeon. He explained to me that cartilage has a “memory” and will often return to the same position after surgery. He stated that the other surgeon had indeed done the best he could at that time and that in is not unusual for this type of surgery to be performed again. I truly admired his straight talk.

The results of the surgery is that for the first time in over fifty years I can now breathe through both of my nostrils regardless of the position I choose to sleep. This I give to Dr. Geroulis and to you for referring me to him.

I am also happy to report that the shots seem to have worked and I only had one bad day this hay fever season. I hope that next year we can arrange a schedule more convenient to both of us prior to the hay fever season.

Once again please accept my most sincere gratitude for referring me to Dr.Geroulis as my everyday life has been vastly impressed by his art.

Very truly yours,

H.J.G

Dear Friend Dr. Anthony

Time has not allowed me a visit to your office. I pray that you and your family are in good health.

Today I was fortunate to turn on the radio (WJJD – Sunday, Oct.6 – Your Health matters) and hear your professional services and advise. I would have liked to have added my testimonial. I definitely would mention trust, personality, and privilege to have the best.

May you and your staff continue to serve and perform satisfaction results.

Dr. Anthony,

Finding pleasure sending articles to special friends that might interest them.

It also keeps me in touch with them.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t see and enjoy the God given talent you have given so many to feel good about themselves.

May your life always be enlightened by the beautiful results. You have shown.

My many thanks.

Sincerely, Mrs. D.K

I want to wish you continued happiness and good health in the New year. Thank you for the excellent care that you have extended to me over the past few months. I am so pleased with the results of the surgery and I am sure that my nose will look even better with time. You are a great surgeon and a wonderful person as well. Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for me. I hope that you enjoy this treat that I made for you! Happy New Year!

June 20, 2001

Dear Dr. Wood,

I am writing you to share my appreciation of the care that I received from Dr. Anthony Geroulis. He performed my nasal – septal-reconstruction, after septoplasty performed by another physician at a different hospital failed. Despite the difficult conditions existing at the time of my operation, Dr. Geroulis did a wonderful job. Thanks to his work, I can breath more easily.

Furthermore, Dr. Geroulis demonstrated excellent communication skills both prior to and after my surgery. His willingness to explain both the surgery and recovery put me at ease. I was surprised when the evening after my surgery, Dr. Geroulis called me at home to check on me and see how I was feeling. In addition, whenever I called his office with a question, if he was not available to take my call he retuned it very promptly and courteously. When I encountered an enormous amount of difficulty with my insurance company, Dr. Geroulis helped me to resolve some of those problems, thereby expediting payment to your institution.

Dr.Geroulis has demonstrated his excellence in his clinical skills an in his ability to communicate with his patients. He is an asset to a teaching hospital like the University of Chicago Hospitals. I am certain that you are pleased to learn of such good news. I hope that you will continue to cultivate those skills in your students and physicians. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Dear Dr. Geroulis:

One of my New year’s resolutions is to stop procrastinating and get some of those little, but important, things done. One is to write you to let you know how pleased I am with your work.

I am more satisfied with the results of your surgery than I could have wished. In is a pleasure to encounter people face to face and not feel compelled to turn my head to hide my profile any longer. Perhaps others do not realize how much I disliked my appearance in the past, but that doesn’t really matter. What’s important is that I am very happy with the change. Some friends have commented that I “look good”. But they really do not know what it is that is different, probably because it looks so natural.

You’re a very talented surgeon to say the least. Thanks ever so much.

Sincerely,

E.T.S, M.D.

Dear Dr. Geroulis,

Thank you so much for the bleph. And brow lift that you did for me! I just love my new look!

Once I’d decided that this was something I needed to do for myself as a maintenance procedure, I had to decide which cosmetic surgeon to see for this. I felt completely confident and safe with you. And I am more than pleased with the results. Thank you for your expertise! You truly are a scientist and an artist!

At first, I had not anticipated your suggestion about the brow lift in addition to the bleph.

I guess I wasn’t thrilled about having two procedures rather than just the one. I just wanted to get rid of the bags under my eyes. However, I am now so glad that you recommended the brow lift and that I followed through with it. The brow procedure seemed to lift my whole face! I am happy that I did this every time I look in the mirror!

I am particularly glad that you did the brow lift for me because other cosmetic surgeons that I had seen had proposed doing it a different way. Your way was less likely to cause sinus problems. I’ve been lucky to have never had sinus difficulties. I certainly did not want to alter that situation! Even post surgery, I am happy to report that I continue to function with no hint of a sinus problem. Additionally, I continue to wear my contact lenses. No problem there either.

Everything was just as you said it would be. I was fairly quick, relatively pain-free and I was back at work and functioning before I knew it. Thank you again for your expertise in what you do! You’re the greatest!

Sincerely,

M.P.C

Dear Dr. Geroulis,

I am writing this to thank you for all your patience with me in making my decision to have you do the work on me. I am very happy with the results and I feel this has definitely improved my self-image. I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone I know contemplating any cosmetic surgery.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please accept my apologies for not being able to address this letter with your correct name.

On October 23rd. Dr. Anthony Geroulis performed surgery on my nose. I am so very pleased with the results of my surgery. The terrible daily headaches I had, before the surgery, are gone. This was the main objective when deciding whether or not to have the surgery on my deviated nasal septum done. But Dr. Geroulis also made sure that my nose looked great after he had finished.

I received something extra in the deal, that I really wasn’t expecting.

Dr.Geroulis is warm and sensitive and tells you what will be happening. I felt more confident in myself and the procedure, with his professional manner. He made me feel relaxed and confident before and after the surgery. It is great to find a doctor these days who finds the time to include,” bedside manner,” in his treatment along with such a professional manner.

Wish we could have a lot more doctors like Dr. Geroulis.

I write this letter to you because I want you to know how lucky you are to have a fine doctor and surgeon on your staff. It would sure be great if the hospitals these days, would have more doctors like that.

Also please know that your nurses, other residents etc… were very efficient and pleasant at the same time. This made my one day stay at the St. Francis a very pleasant one.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

V.L.S
