Skin tags are extremely common on the face and other parts of the body. They can be cosmetically embarrassing as well as cause problems when applying make-up, shaving or catching on clothing.
Although it is not necessary to remove skin tags for health reasons, most people dislike having skin tags because they affect their appearance and make them feel that they are a sign of middle or old age.
The following are the procedures Dr.Geroulis utilizes for removal of skin tags:
Electro-cauterization- A very thin blade is made hot with electricity and is applied on the stalk of the skin tag. There is very minimal pain, and it is more like a trickling effect than a pain. The hot blade cuts the stalk and at the same time seals off the blood capillaries there so that there is absolutely no bleeding.
Cryotherapy- A very simple method performed by freezing the area of the skin tag with liquid nitrogen. When the skin tag gets frozen, it will shed off naturally.
Surgery - The surgical removal of the skin tag is done by masterfully making an incision at the stalk of the skin tag and removing it. Generally, this is a painless procedure which might not even require an anesthetic.
Removing skin tags is an easy procedure, which must be done by an expert, otherwise, there are chances of recurrence.
