Originating in Europe and one of the most commonly performed procedures worldwide, liposculpture (liposuction) permanently removes localized excess fat deposits, often resistant to exercise and diet. These fat deposits are most commonly located on the thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, knees, face and neck. (For men, the most common areas are the waist, abdomen, lower back, breast and neck.)
Body liposculpture can noticeably reduce the circumference of the hip and thigh areas, and flatten stomachs and chests. The procedure brings a natural, slimmer and more graceful proportion to the body.
The tumescent technique is used in this procedure: anesthetic is injected into the targeted area. A long, narrow instrument is inserted beneath the skin through small incisions in an inconspicuous location. The instrument is maneuvered to suction and permanently remove unwanted fat cells.
The ideal candidate for liposculpture is healthy, with localized areas of unwanted fat deposits visibly disproportionate to the rest of the body. Although body sculpting is not performed for weight reduction, it can improve body proportion.
