Blepharoplasty, also known as Eye Lifting is a procedure in which excess skin from the upper eyelids is removed, drooping upper eyelids are corrected and fatty or puffy bags beneath the eyes are addressed in one procedure. Blepharoplasty restores a happier expression to eyes that have become tired looking, wilted or creased, without altering their natural expression, as it is their expression that gives the face its personality. Blepharoplasty requires a surgeon with an excellent knowledge of the orbital zone and eyelids, a skilled mastery of operatory technique and a meticulous pre-operative analysis of the problems to be addressed. Commonly performed around 35-40 years of age, because the eyelids are the first facial feature to betray the signs of aging, Blepharoplasty is a highly rewarding procedure. There are distinct procedures for upper and lower lid Blepharoplasty, which can be performed individually or in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a Facelift, depending on the patient's aesthetic needs.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasy
Lower eyelid surgery for men and women can dramatically rejuvenate and refresh tired looking eyes, improving the appearance, prominence and contour of the eyes. This procedure involves the removal of the fatty deposits located in the lower eyelid area that give rise to puffy bags, unattractive pouches and bulges, often referred to as "bags under the eyes." They commonly occur alone or in combination with the sagging of excess lower eyelid skin. This appearance is the result of an inherited tendency to have too much fat for perfect contour, combined with laxity of the retaining structures.
The procedure involves an incision inside the lower lids, eliminating external scars. Dr. Geroulis employs the most recent and advanced techniques involving the Transconjunctival approach. No skin is removed. This unique method gives the advantage of leaving no visible scar on the lower eyelids. The skin re-contours to give a natural appearance. The removal of fatty pads underneath the eye can dramatically enhance the attractiveness and shape of the eyes to give a smoother, less weary appearance to the eye. The overall result is a relaxed, more attractive look.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasy
Upper eyelid surgery for men and women can dramatically improve the appearance, prominence and contour of the eyes by correcting or "lifting" drooping upper eyelids, bulges of the upper eyelids and visual fine wrinkling of the skin of the upper eyelid-all of which contribute to a tired, weary, sad, angry, and aged look. For women, it may make the eye "feel" tired and smudge their makeup.
Upper eyelid drooping is a manifestation of an excessive amount of upper eyelid skin that results from a loss of elasticity. The procedure for the upper lids involves an operation to remove the excess skin tissue.
Bulging of the upper eyelid commonly occurs as a result of an inherited tendency to have excess fat in this location, combined with laxity of the skin. Because it is structural fat, diet or weight loss will have no effect on this problem. The most effective treatment removes the selected amount of fat through a skin crease incision in the upper eyelid. In the case of the upper eyelid procedure, the incision is hidden in the folds and creases of the upper lids. The skin above the eye is separated from the underlying fatty tissue and muscle, enabling the excess fat and skin to be removed. In those cases where upper eyelid skin hangs over the eye, once the skin is removed, peripheral vision may be improved. In many cases, an upper eyelid "lift" can provide a more rejuvenated appearance to the entire face.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty can be performed as a sole operation or in conjunction with other facial surgical procedures, such as a Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty, Face/Neck Lift or Forehead/Brow Lift. The latter is performed when the tired, drooping eye appearance is further aggravated by a drooping and wrinkling of the eyebrows, making the eyelids appear to have more excess skin and sagging than they truly do.
