Nasal Surgery or Rhinoplasty Print E-mail

1504017.jpgNasal Surgery or Rhinoplasty is one of the most widespread of all plastic surgery procedures. As an aesthetic goal, it can dramatically improve the appearance of the nose. Irregularities resulting from a weakly defined or overly prominent nose may upset the symmetry of the face and affect its overall appearance. Rhinoplasty can enhance the appearance, prominence and contour of the nose, thereby bringing increased balance to the facial features of the individual. Today more than ever, male patients are open to the idea of aesthetic surgery to eliminate a bump on their nose or to have it reshaped and re-contoured into a more desirable profile.

As a reconstructive goal, this procedure can correct hereditary defects, alleviate breathing problems, reduce airway obstruction or reconstruct broken noses arising from accidents and injuries. Nasal Surgery or Rhinoplasty may involve:

  • Removing a large hump to change the bridge in the nose
  • Altering the length or width of the nose
  • Correcting the tip of the nose that may be too wide, too narrow, too sharp or deviated.
  • Narrowing the span of the nostrils
  • Changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip

The procedure involves incisions carried out inside the nostrils or alternatively, at the base of the nose. When Rhinoplasty is performed from inside the nose, all incisions are hidden and there is no visible scarring. Once the skin is separated from the supporting bone and cartilage, it can be sculptured to the desired form. Dr. Geroulis, adhering strictly to the objective of achieving a non- operated, natural looking nose, will formulate a surgical plan, individualizing the patient's needs to surgically contour each patient's nose to provide a natural "fit" to the specific facial bone structure, features and entire body size including the patient's overall height and weight.

Whether the approach is internal or open, cosmetic and plastic Rhinoplasty involves a complete evaluation of the anatomy of the nose and its proportionality to the patients face as a whole. Visual computer imaging may be requested during the consultation to provide patients with a simulated visual image of the potential results of the recommended plan of surgical correction.
